What is Kajukenbo?
Kajukenbo was originally created in the 1950's in Hawaii by five martial artists who trained together for two years in ferocious training sessions designed to forge an effective fighting system built from realistic training. Because of its diversity, Kajukenbo is considered the first MIXED MARTIAL ART that continues to grow to this day and trully does seek to train to use all that is effective. The original systems combined in the Palama School for which KaJuKenBo is named, are:Karate

FIVE ELEMENT KSDI
A MIXED MARTIAL ART for the street and combat. Uses KENPO, KYUSHO PRESSURE POINTS, JUDO, JUJITSU, BOXING, KARATE, MUAY THAI, GUNG FU, WRESTLING, SPECIAL FORCES SELF DEFENSE and TAI CHI.These arts where developed and used by many Special Forces around the world especially Kenpo Jujitsu which the system was called for several years before the name Kajukenbo was established. Over the years many martial arts systems have been added utilizing the most effective of the techniques from each such as Pencak Silat, Savate, Tai Chi, Hung Gar Gung Fu and Jeet Kun Do.
A typcial class structure is as follows
10 MIN CHI KUNG WARM UP EXRECISE
10 MIN CLASSICAL STANCE KENPO HAND EXERCISES, CHI KUNG work, and MILITARY STYLE CORE DEVELOPMENT EXERCISES
30 MIN of combined or segmented tactical Work in Boxing (both Chinese and Western), KICKBOXING, JUDO, JUJITSU, KYUSHO, OR BAG WORK.
30 MIN of SELF DEFENSE TECHNIQUES
10 MIN TAI CHI cool down

TRAINING IS BROKEN DOWN INTO TWO BASIC CATAGORIES CLASSICAL AND TACTICAL IN CLASSICAL WE TRAIN FOR STAMINA FLEXABILITY GRACE AND HEALTH. IT IS REPESENTED IN THE KENPO AND TAICHI WORK. TACTICAL IS STRICTLY FOR COMBATIVE WORK, BOXING, JUJITSU AND SELF DEFENSE WORK ARE DESIGNED TO GIVE THE EDGE TO THE STUDENT IN A FIGHT ON THE STREETS. SOME OF THIS WORK CAN BE TRANSLATED TO THE RING, SOME CAN NOT BECAUSE OF THE NATURE. BUT BOTH ARE USEFUL AND NECESSARY FOR FULL SPECTRUM TRAINING! |
